The German course level A1 (basic speaker) is the so-called breakthrough or beginner level. It is a course for the students without any or very few knowledge of the German language. We work in our German language studies during the academic year 2011-2012 with the text and workbook (Lehr- und Arbeitsbuch) Berliner Platz 1 NEU. Our language work focus on phonetics, pronunciation (Aussprache) and reading, to build a familiar relation with the German language. It is important to acquire a basically well and correct spoken language. Well spoken -even simple- words improve also a better listenning comprehension (Hörverstehen) and lead later to a better comprehension of a whole sentence without any written support. We study this NTU Spring Semester 2012 in the German grammar amongst others the prepositions with dative case, modal verbs (wollen/ können, dürfen/sollen), the past participle with 'be' (Partizip II und sein). We exercise more the written German (Textproduktion) and study German culture and life in the topics: visiting Berlin, living style and apartments, working life, health, and travelling. The oral expression and active participation of every student is not only desired and welcomed, but important to train and taste the spoken language. 'Learning by speaking' is the most effective way to remind and learn the foreign language. The language work of our NTU Spring Semester 2012 consinsts in the acquisition of the lessons 7 until 12 of our book. Very important for this acquisition is beside of the language work in our class a continuous and intensive work at home. The workbook and the CDs are a great help to deepen and solidifying understanding and comprehension of each lesson.
